The region lies near the Mediterranean coast and provides a beautiful picture of the Mediterranean landscape. The place introduces us to a rich Moorish culture. Other than this, the area has a large number of valleys and is well known for its orchards and vineyards. Beautiful beaches with crystal clear water attract tourists here from far off places.
Tourist attractions
Palmeral de Elche
This is a city famous for the large number of palm trees. The Muslims were the founders of this city which has been declared as a World Heritage Site. Other than the large number of palm trees, the city also has a municipal park and many other places of cultural importance.
Misterio de Elche
It is a religious theatre and is the only theatre of its kind. Lyric dramas that date back to the medieval times are staged here. Origin of these plays dates back to the 13th century. The scripts of the play are taken from Apocryphal Gospels, the contents of which are written in Valencian language. These plays offer a unique music which is a mix of different kind of melodies from different periods of time.
The play is only held at a particular time of the year. 14th and 15th of August are the dates when this unique and extraordinary play is enacted. Other than this, special performance is also given on 1st November of even numbered years.
Terra Mítica
It is a theme park that offers not only amusement but also gives a glimpse of the Mediterranean culture. The Mediterranean culture consisted of mainly five civilizations. They were Rome, Egypt, Iberia, the Island and Greece. This theme park is divided into these five areas for the tourists to experience the beauty of the different cultures. Restaurants, bars and cafes are present in large numbers to present different kinds of cuisines. Large numbers of shows are presented to entertain the tourists and take them into a new world of fizz and frolic.
Alicante Provincial Archaeological Museum
It is an archaeological museum consisting evidence of prehistoric culture. Artistic creations of a number of cultures like the Roman culture and the Iberian Culture are kept here. Some samples contained in the museum are as old as 100,000 years.
Beaches
Costa Blanca is famous for its beaches. The beaches are provided with good facilities for water sports like swimming and scuba diving. Restaurants and bars are also available in large numbers to facilitate the tourists. Levante beach, Capitán beach and Flamenca beach are the most visited beaches of Costa Blanca.
A cove can also be seen in Capitán beach along with beautiful summer houses and gardens. In Flamenca beach facilities are provided for beach volleyball and the rocks surrounding the beach add to the beauty of this place.
