Old town

The old town is dominated by the Moors. They provided a kind of mystical complex with narrow, cobbled streets that open to small squares. The golden dome of the cathedral rising high above the long, white house, all together keeps the patina. It is very diffrent from the ports of similar size since in Cadiz you can feel relaxed and carefree, even at night. This may be attributed to its location and size, and moreover to its tradition of liberalism and tolerance.

Historical sites

This 3000 years old town has many beautiful old buildings like the Casa del Almirante (Admiral House) and Casa de las Cadenas (The chain House).

The old town is dominated by numerous plazas such as Plaza de Mina, Plaza San Antonio, and Plaza de la Cathedral with the cathedral in the Baroque style, etc.

However, the city has many historical towers which were attached to the houses.

Cadiz is also known for its three gates Las Puertas de Tierra (from the 16th century), El Arco de los Blancos (from the 13th century) and El Arco de la Rosa (from the 18th century).

Above all, the city has three fortresses: Baluarte de la Candelaria (fortress from the 17th century), Castillo de San Sebastian (from the 18th century) and Castillo de Santa Catalina (from the 16th century).

On the other hand, Cadiz has typical urban residential neighborhoods - such as quarters of Vinaili La Santa Maria and La Santa Cueva.

Cadiz is not only the oldest but also one of the finest cities of Western civilization.

The City of fun

Cadiz offers a rich nightlife and numerous fiestas that are held at least once a month. However the most popular is the Carnival, which is held in Febraury. People from Cadiz are known as friendly and warm hosts. The Carnival is the biggest event, when thousands of people come to Cadiz to watch and attend this ceremony. They get dressed up and sing and dance in the streets of Cadiz till morning.

Cadiz has a long Entertainment history. It began in the 17th century when the city of Cadiz tried to keep pace with the carnival celebrations that were held in Venice and Genoa. Due to its rich history, during the carnival you can hear African and Creole rhythms, samba, traditional Mexican songs and rural Colombian sounds that mingle in the streets with local Andalusian songs and traditional Flamenco music.

Beaches

Cadiz has more than three hundred days of sunshine a year. In addition to the nice weather, it has remarkable beaches. Residents of Cadiz are very proud of their 10 km long sandy beach. The most famous beaches are Playa de la Caleta, Playa de la Santa Maria, Victoria and Playa Cortadura.
